Cottage Grove is part of the South Washington County Independent School District #833. There is one preschool, 16 different elementary schools for ages K-5th, four middle schools for grades 6th through 8th and three high schools for grades 9th through 12th. There are also two alternative learning schools - the Alternative Learning Center and the High School Diploma Center. Cottage Grove has a very organized City Clerk with duties and responsibilities including communicating information to the citizens, serves as Clerk to the City Council, maintaining official records, licensing of dogs, cats and businesses and they are in charge of the local election process. Cottage Grove's City Clerk is responsible for all city and other elections. City elections are held during even-numbered years in November. State, national and county primaries are held during even-numbered years in September. You may apply for an absentee ballot during designated hours, when elections are coming up. Elections that are held during odd-numbered years are School District Elections held in locations other then designated even-numbered year elections.
